Hello! My name is Bailey Gillis and I hail from the great state of Minnesota! I come from a family of 2 wonderful, loving and supportive parents and a younger brother who’s definitely one of my best friends. I graduated from in 2019 with a degree in Environmental Science. While I loved studying the environment, after graduating I felt the Lord calling me to shift from that to working in Nicaragua.

I first came to PCA on a trip with World Race and in just three short weeks I fell in love with the students, staff, and the school as a whole . There was an instant connection I felt; a love I had that didn’t make sense outside of the explanation that it could only have come from God. Through a lot of prayer and discussion, I made the decision to come back in January of 2021 to teach English for a year. But after that first year, I decided to stay another year…and then another.

Whenever people ask how long I’m going to be here, I just say that I’ll be here until I’m not because I don’t know what God has planned for me long term. I love being a part of PCA and working with the kids here. Additionally, I’m also involved in children and young adult programs at my church, and I feel like everyday I’m presented with more opportunities to be involved.

Aside from my busy school and church schedule, I love being outside, playing and listening to music, drinking a good cup of coffee, and going out to eat good food and ice cream with my boyfriend.

Return to the U.S.

You read that correctly – I returned to the United States this month! On Monday the 25th, I woke up at 3am, rode a bus for 4 hours to the airport, had 3 plane rides, and arrived in Minneapolis at midnight that same day.

Bailey Gills October Updates

September is called the “Patriotic Month” here in Nicaragua, since September 14th and 15th mark Central America’s (Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica) independence from Spain.

Bailey Gillis September Update

Sometimes things take a completely different turn from what you expected, and I can’t think of anything that more accurately describes the month of August. About half way through the month my roommate caught Covid, causing us to quarantine for the rest of the month and into the first week of September. By God’s grace, we are both currently healthy and just waiting for our quarantine to end.
